Weekend sport round-up in Donegal

There was plenty of action on the sport scene in Donegal over the weekend, not least a very successful Harvest Stages Rally based in Killybegs which saw the Boyle cousins again in the top spot at the end.

In Finn Park on Friday night, Finn Harps got a valuable win against Bray Wanderers which could go a long way to keeping them in the Premier Division for next season. They are eight points clear of second from bottom Wexford Youths with four games left.

In local soccer, St. Catherine’s were the only winners in the Donegal League Premier Division, defeating leaders Rathmullan 2-1. Finn Harps U-19s had a great win in Cork to qualify for the semi-final of the competition.

In GAA, Downings made history by winning both the Junior A and Junior B Championships on a special day in O’Donnell Park, Letterkenny for the Rosguill men.

In the Intermediate final, Burt drew with Milford and the sides will meet again on Saturday next, to see who represents Donegal in the Ulster Intermediate Club competition on Sunday.

St. Eunan’s and Naomh Conaill qualified for the Minor Division One Championship final with wins over Aodh Ruadh and St. Michael’s respectively.

In the Minor Division Two final, Cloughaneely had a point to spare over St. Naul’s in a terrific final in Glenswilly, 3.14 to 2-16 the final score.

Seamus Coleman rounded off a great week with another good display for Ireland as they won 3-1 in Moldova to go joint top of the qualifier table with Serbia. Coleman had scored his first goal for his country in the win over Georgia on Thursday night.
