Artlink Fort Dunree is hosting two events on Saturday, March 8 to mark  International Women’s Day.

Women of Donegal by artist Christina McBride focuses on the history of women from Donegal who migrated to Scotland.

The event is a simultaneous outdoor projection in Glasgow and Donegal on International Women’s Day.  It uses archival photographs, part of the Glasgow/Gaoth Dobhair archive, which focus on the history and experiences of women from Donegal who migrated to Scotland in search of work. 

The event, run in partnership with Greater Govanhill and Artlink Fort Dunree connects Buncrana where many had to leave, with Govanhill, where many chose to settle.

Women of Donegal by Christina McBride takes place at the Saldanha Building, Fort Dunree, and Greater Govanhill Window, 82 Bowman St, Glasgow on Saturday, March 8 at 7pm.

On the same day, the Irish History Group, Glasgow is presenting an afternoon of talks celebrating Irish women which will be livestreamed at Artlink Fort Dunree.

Women, Activism, Archives and  Heritage #3: Celebrating Irish Women, takes place at The Deep End, Govanhill Baths, Glasgow and will be live-streamed for an audience and discussion at Artlink Fort Dunree from 4pm to 6pm.

The guests on the day include Professor Laura Kelly, who was involved in feminist campaigns for contraception in 1970s Ireland, Rachael Kelly Ryder, an artist and curator based between Dublin and Glasgow, and Gillian Steel, an artist, researcher, filmmaker and design activist.
