Sarah Jessica Parker’s secret is ‘out of the bag’

The cloud of secrecy that had enveloped the now famous Sarah Jessica Parker’s handbag has finally been lifted and this morning the Donegal Democrat can finally publish pictures and details of this iconic bag.

The cloud of secrecy that had enveloped the now famous Sarah Jessica Parker’s handbag has finally been lifted and this morning the Donegal Democrat can finally publish pictures and details of this iconic bag.

The Killybegs Womens’ Group with that “Is feidir linn” attitude finally unravelled the bag exclusively for the Donegal Democrat despite requests from media from all parts of Ireland and even further afield to do so.

Anne McSharry of the Womens’ Group told the Donegal Democrat, “Since the story broke on Tuesday morning our phones haven’t stopped ringing - I can’t imagine how they managed to get our numbers!

“We have been doing radio and press interviews non-stop; it is unbelievable the interest that this bag has stirred.

“There has been a lot of speculation as to what bag Sarah Jessica sent us - they talked about Chanel, Gucci, Prada, Christian Dior but they all got it wrong! “It’s a Paco Rabanne.”

The ‘Mala’ is a name you don’t hear very much these days, and yet, it was only forty-five to thirty-five years ago that Rabanne was the hottest name on people’s lips.

He was the fashion innovator whose looks epitomised the times; Brigitte Bardot was a big fan as was Francoise Hardy and now Sarah Jessica Parker.

The bag is the famous ‘Le 69’, a handmade accessory that the London Museum of Design named one of the ‘50 Bags That Changed the World’, and it’s back and presently in protective custody in Killybegs!

The brown and red leathers, stainless steel and stingray leather are classic Paco and even if you wouldn’t consider laying down the $2,460 for one, you can always buy a few tickets at only €5 each and support a very worthy cause.

The famous bag will be making its one and only guest appearance in the Tara Hotel in Killybegs on July 15 where the Killybegs Women’s Group has organised a celebratory night- ‘Bags of Style’ when the winning ticket will be chosen.

The winner will be presented with the famous SJP ‘Le 69’ iconic bag and, as an added bonus, an overnight stay at the luxurious Sandhouse Hotel which overlooks Donegal Bay and one of Sarah Jessica’s favourite spots, the cliffs at Slieve League. This luxurious night includes dinner for two and a day of pampering in their Marine Spa.

General Manager, Paul Diver said, “It is only right and fitting that someone with a celebrity bag should be treated as a celebrity!”

Apart from the handbag, various other prizes with a Sarah Jessica Parker theme will be raffled - her favourite Blackberry, the indispensable string of pearls, the essential Raybans and her very own favourite make-up.

Anne summed up: “This promises to be a really great night and a great fundraiser for the Killybegs Womens’ Group.

“There is a serious side to all this - in the present economic cllimate there is a lot of doom and gloom around and many jobs have been lost in Killybegs - a lot of those involving women.

“Killybegs has always been a vibrant and fun town with a strong sense of community and we want to bring back the smiles on the faces and that feel-good factor.

“Enjoyment doesn’t have to cost a fortune - that’s why we are only charging €5 per ticket - everybody has an equal chance.

“We have found that networking and getting women together, be it for a yoga class or a dressy up night at an affordable place, lifts everybody’s spirits.

“Let’s face it, if the women are happy, the men will be too!

“We are presently working on quite a few other surprises for the night and the Donegal Democrat will be the first to know!

“Sarah Jessica may be a superstar but she has proven by her generous donation that she is a woman with one very big heart - without out her this could never have happened. She is one of our own.”

Tickets will be on sale in the downstairs bar in The Tara Hotel in Killybegs on Tuesday, June 14 and Tuesday, June 21 4-5pm and at the Central Hotel, Donegal town on Saturday, June 18 and Saturday, June 25 2-3pm.

Applications can also be made for tickets also at their e-mail; or on their Facebook page Killybegs Women’s Group.
