The Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs will be extremely instrumental in saving Amharclann Gaoth Dobhair in Derrybeg by allocating funding of up to €30,000 to help place a roof on the theatre. Minister Dinny McGinley said that the building is an extremely important cultural institution in the region. “The main building will be saved and that is the important thing, that will be the first step. After that we will hopefully be able to continue with the rest of it so that the tide will turn and that Amharclann Gaoth Dobhair will once again be a cultural jewel in the area,” he said.
He said that he was optimistic that money would be made available for the project. “Projects that recognise the importance of the Irish language will be viewed favourably by the department,” he said.
