The children of Scoil Bhríde, Leitir were have scooped the top prize of Scoth Leiriú na Féile (Best Overall Production) at the Ulster Finals of this year’s Féile Scoildramaíocht na hÉireann.
The highly successful festival, run over two days in An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny, featured a total of 22 plays from schools throughout Ulster including productions from Derry, Belfast, Downings, Letterkenny, Gweedore, Magheraroarty, Leitir, Monaghan, Maghera, Crossmaglen and Newry.
The children of Scoil Bhríde were delighted to have won their own section, Comórtas a 3, but were absolutely overjoyed to hear that they had taken the top prize of Scoth Léiríu na Féile for their production of ‘An Turas’.
The drama features the adventures and escapades of a group of unruly school children on a school trip while focusing on the detrimental and often tragic effects of bullying.
Scoil Bhríde, along with ten other productions from the Ulster Finals, now progress to represent the province at the All Ireland Finals of Féile Scoildramaíochta na hÉireann to be held in Mullingar from April 25 to May 2.
The eleven finalists are: ‘An Turas’, Scoil Bhríde, Leitir Mhic a Bhaird; ‘Cochaillín Dearg, Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir, Doire; ‘Tír na n-Óg, Scoil Adhamhnáin, An Luinnigh; ‘An Gasúr sna hÉadaí Oíche’, Gaelscoil na bhFál, Béal Feirste; ‘Fuadach’, Coláiste Ailigh, Leitir Ceanainn; ‘In Aimsir an Mháirtínigh’, Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair; ‘ Arís’, Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair; ‘Caitlín Ní hUallacháin’, Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair, ‘Toy Story’, Gaelscoil Ultáin, Muineachán; ‘An Mhonarcha Seacláide’, Gaelscoil Ultáin, Muineachán; and ‘Triail an Drabhlasaigh’, Céim Aniar, Na Dúnaibh. Other prize winners at the festival included Jack Ó Gallchóir of Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair who won Best Actor for his portrayal of Feilimí in the drama ‘Arís’ and Siobhán Ní Alpín from Coláiste Ailigh, Leitir Ceanainn who won Best Actress for her portrayal of Máire in the drama ‘Trioblóidí’. The prize for best new script at the Ulster Festival this year went to Proinsias Ó Cuilinn, Céim Aniar, Na Dúnaibh for ‘Triail an Drabhlasaigh’.
