It was an evening of remembrance, celebration and information on Friday evening in Dorrian’s Imperial Hotel as the Ballyshannon North West Hospice Support Group celebrated 21 years in existence and celebrated with those who have recovered from cancer, writes Michael McHugh.
It was also a night in remembrance of those loved and lost to cancer. Dr. Cathryn Bogan gave a short presentation about the hospice and the great work carried out by her and her team. Tributes were paid to the all staff who work in the North West Hospice.
“May they continue to live out the values of respect, dignity and empathy as they care for people who are dying and those who are close to them. May they be strengthened and blessed in their work for all those who are presently on their journey through illness. May they be blessed, strengthened and find peace for all health professionals and their support workers, caring for people at end of life within hospitals, nursing homes and the community,” a special pamphlet to mark the occasion reflected.
Tributes were also paid to all members of our support group past and present, who have given generously of their time, their energy and their expertise in helping to make real the initial vision that is now North West Hospice.
Thanks were also expressed for everyone in the Ballyshannon and surrounding areas who have contributed in any way to the support group. On the night a special thanks was extended to Dr. Bogan, the Hospice Team, all the Clergy of different denominations, Edel McNally and Patricia Keane.
Mention was also made to Amy Gillen, Angela & Niamh Currid, and the members of the Bel Canto Choir for making the evening so special along with the Dorrian family, for their hospitality on the night.
