Irish Aerial Dance Fest 2012 will be presented by Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Theatre, Donegal County Council, An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny, from June 2nd to 16th.

The IADF is a unique opportunity to experience the joy of dancing in the air. Our classes cater for beginners right through to advanced aerial dancers and circus aerialists. The main aim of the IADF is to bring international and national circus teachers to Ireland and to offer high quality classes to aerialists, dancers, actors and anyone that might want to give it a go.

This will be there third year of the IADF. We have 10 national and international teachers teaching 191 classes over the 16 days.

The Beginner’s Taster Weekend

This weekend is designed to give people a change to try some simple and fun circus skills in a safe environment. If you always wanted to try it but were too afraid, if you are local and just wanted to try something new to keep fit or have fun with your friends then this is definitely the class for you.

If you want to book into the IADF week’s classes but you are too afraid, then this is the class for you. Book into the Beginner;s Weekend and maybe next year you will be ready for the weekly class. And hey, bring your friends.

The ‘Emma Insley’ Circus Night

This will take place on Sat 9th and Sat 16th June, starting at 7pm at An Grianan Theatre. These two evenings are filled with International Circus and Aerial Dance acts by professional artists from the USA, Australia, France, the UK and Ireland.

These highly-skilled circus acts will be performing at your very own local theatre. Do something different this summer, see the very best of the action on and above An Grianan’s stage.

She Dances in the Dark

Check this out on Friday 15th June, at An Grianan Theatre, starting at 9pm.

All the way from Australia, Natural Wings presents the European Premiers of She Dances in the Dark, their new aerial circus show.

This production explores the capacity to be loving one moment and destructive the next, and our inability to control it. Join us in celebrating who we are - every crazy bit of us!

The Crash Cabaret: Beatles vs. Stones!

Time for a Crash Cabaret with a difference at An Grianan Theatre this Friday night from 10pm. Letterkenny’s finest musical collective are getting it on with some of the town’s biggest vocal talents and performing a selection of beautifully weird and downright dirty Beatles and Rolling Stones tunes, with the audience making the final and hardest decision they will ever face, who is better? Beatles or Stones?

Cabaret house band ‘Leider Geil’ will feature: Ronan Mc Connell, Emmet Toney, Aoife Foley, Orlaith Gilcreest, Stephen Neary, Cian Ronayne, Jeremy Howard, Marty McIntyre and Fionn Robinson + special and not so special guests.

Visuals and mixed audio bangers from Shindig Records kingpin DJ Dano along with other DJ guest appearances including Diarmuid O Doherty.

A Night With George

This will be staged on Thurs May 24th @ Balor Theatre Ballybofey. Not every woman gets to spend a night with George Clooney, but Bridie Murphy does!

Let’s face it, Bridie’s life hasn’t been all parties and premieres like George’s, but it’s a life full of drama nonetheless. Over the course of one evening, she takes George on the journey of her life. From the terrible lows to the hilarious highs, and charts the course to her unlikely future.

With the all-important razor sharp black Belfast humour, this hilarious night of theatre is sure to leave everyone wishing that they too could spend ‘A Night With George’!

This hilarious cult show from Brassneck Theatre Company is that rare wonderful beast – a play that is both critically acclaimed and a commercial success. A Night With George! became an overnight sensation at the West Belfast Festival in 2009 before going on to sell out The Grand Opera House and The Waterfront Hall in Belfast in 2010. It then went on to win the prestigious ‘Best Play’ award at the 1st Irish theatre festival in New York in September 2011 with Donna O’Connor nominated for best actress. It also received the Aisling Award for outstanding achievement in the arts and Donna was nominated as the Belfast Telegraph’s Woman of the Year.

Creedence Clearwater Revived

Check this out on Sat May 26th @ Balor Theatre Ballybofey - it’s a tribute to one of the icons of American music.

Creedence Clearwater Revived, a tribute band to one of the icons of American music ‘Creedence Clearwater Revival’ (CCR) are playing the Balor Arts Centre on Saturday, May 26th.

Although their recording career was relatively short, Creedence Clearwater Revival produced a catalogue of great songs, influencing countless bands of all genres.

Hailing from Coleraine and Belfast the members of Creedence Clearwater Revived have a wealth of experience and talent. Working tirelessly to reproduce the authentic Creedence sound, the end product is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest bands in the history of music.

These fine musicians invite you along to hear the hits that made Creedence Clearwater Revival one of the greatest bands ever, including Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, Lodi, Down on the Corner and Fortunate Son.

The innovative artist and photographer’s ongoing work focuses on to the constant change in the Letterkenny area, encouraging us to take a second and deeper look at what appears familiar at first glance.

Paul Rooney’s exhibit enters its last few days in the Regional Cultural Centre Letterkenny, so if you haven’t checked out his selected works from 2007 -2012, you have until the 31st May to do so.

Summer’s here!

The recent heat wave sends images of summer on the way, so now is a good time to start thinking about the various summer camps and workshops on offer over the coming months. An Grianan Theatre’s Drama Week, Choral Academy, Ballet Ireland and PBM Performing Arts School all take place between June and August - check out the brochure or contact the theatre for further details. The Donegal Summer School of Music, an annual event now in it’s 12th year, is an ideal way to explore the world of music. This year it will run from 9 - 14 July.

Classes can be enjoyed by students who already take music lessons and also by keen newcomers. It’s a great opportunity to work on your current interests or try something you’ve always wondered about! Classes are open to students aged from 8 - 18 and a morning workshop is offered to younger children. Some classes require a skill level while others are open to all. Students may participate in classes that develop solo skills and may also gain experience in ensemble playing.

Everyone is encouraged to take part in end-of-week concerts where family members can enjoy the fruits of your weeks work!

The Earagail Arts Festival will run a workshop entitled Make Your Own Festival Summer Camp in Letterkenny, starting Monday 2nd July in the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny. Children roll up your sleeves, bring your imaginations and get inventive in this pre-festival week of creative workshops with visual artist Joanna Mc Glynn.

Inspired by mystical lands and exotic cultures, children will make festival influenced creations, some to take home and some to decorate the outdoor venues at this year’s festival. Think magical mobiles, funky bunting, bizarre mini sculptures, quirky outdoor decorations and lots of fun! Suitable for ages 7- 12 years, €50 per child per week, booking essential. The Earagail Arts Festival is a venue-based music and arts festival with eclectic and alternative music, visual arts, circus and theatre programmes alongside spoken word, film, family and children centred events.
