Allingham Arts Festival this weekend in Ballyshannon

Ballyshannon is hosting a packed weekend of events for all the family with this weekend’s Allingham Arts Festival.

The festival will be opened tonight by actor Sean McGinley at 7pm in the Abbey Arts Centre and all are welcome.

The launch of the Allingham Visual Arts Exhibition and the Annual, Emerson Lecture with Anthony Begley will follow.

The Finals of the Festival Song Writing Competition will take place tonight at 10pm in Dicey Reilly’s. Come along to see some wonderfully talented artists in action as they compete for the top prize of €1000. Eight songs have been shortlisted: ‘ICU Song’ by Dara Ryder (Dublin); ‘Fifty Shades of Grey have taken her away’ by Chris Ward (Newtowncunningham); ‘Love Me To The End’ by Lia O Neill (Dungannon); ‘The Girl I Feel’ by Sean Gibbons (Ballyshannon); ‘Town On A Hill’ by Maurin Mannion (Drumcliff); ‘Remember Yesterday’ by Bat Kinane (Wicklow); ‘Someone Special’ by Patrick Ryan (Co Dublin); and

‘Can You Feel It’ by Brian Sweeney (Bundoran).

As part of the eclectic mix of events and the year that’s in it the Allingham Arts Festival present Donegal/Ballyshannon and Sam Maguire 1992 - Archive Nostalgia Video Presentation (Approx 1 hour of footage from 1992 in Ballyshannon), courtesy of Billy Finn. This will will be a rolling presentation showing on Saturday November 10th in Dicey Reilly’s back room and Bar from 12 to 6pm. See all the craic and what you and they and here looked like then.

Don’t miss Readings, Rhymes and Rhapsodies at the Abbey Arts Centre Saturday night with a host of guests including with Sean McGinley, Kevin Barry, Michael Harding among others.

There are a series of great workshops for children on Saturday: Poetry at 1am, Creative Writing at 11am, Guitar and Art, both at 2pm.

Take the children to the Lambert’s puppet show at 3.30 pm on Sunday and finish the weekend with a Choral concert in St Anne’s Church.
