Donegal bike rider Aaron McBride was one of 23 competitors for the Red Bull Rookies 2014 race programme, which runs alongside MotoGP throughout Europe.

McBride, from Killynure, Convoy, was ultimately unsuccessful. The two selected from the 23 hopefuls from across Ireland were Kia McGreevey from Ballynahinch and Kevin Keyes from Edenderry in Offaly.

The two stunned recipients were overwhelmed, saying “This is an incredible moment for us both. It’s amazing to think of the opportunity that we’ve been given and we can’t wait to take full advantage of this dream come true.”

Participants summed up the experience up by saying, “We’d really like to thank Red Bull Ireland for coming up with the concept and inviting competitors like us to take part in the Red Bull Under My Wing initiative. It was a really beneficial two-days. Not only have we learned about how to improve our track riding, we have also seen the benefits of how to work off-track with nutrition, preparation and training. Jeremy and Jonathan were brilliant and it was a terrific experience.”
