An Grianán Theatre presents Blazing Bows this Saturday, May 4 at 8pm.
It’s not often we get the chance to hear three masters of one traditional music instrument at the same. With Blazing Bows we get that chance. The band features three iconic fiddle players - Cathal Hayden, Dezi Donnelly and Tóla Custy - alongside a fantastic engine room, Ed Boyd on guitar and John Joe Kelly on bodhrán.
This unique and exciting band brings together some of the most respected traditional musicians from Ireland and England. These five master musicians have individually played with a host of bands including: Four Men and a Dog, Sharon Shannon Band, Mike McGoldrick band, Transatlantic Sessions, Calico, Flook and Kate Rusby, to name but a few. Indeed, these five extraordinary musicians have become ambassadors for traditional Irish music all over the world.
The band members are delighted to announce that they will be joined onstage at An Grianán Theatre this Saturdzy by music students from Ceol na Coille Irish Music School. Tóla Custy visited the school last week to deliver a music workshop. During that session, he taught the students fsome of the tunes that will be played during the gig. Tóla was blown away by the standard of music in the school and, as a result, the students will join the band onstage for a fewsets during the concert at An Grianán.
The band is really looking forward to bringing their music to Letterkenny and is especially looking forward to their sets with the students of Ceol na Coille.
As a band, Cathal Hayden, Dezi Donnelly, Tóla Custy, Ed Boyd and John Joe Kelly make a sound that is truly sublime. With the added talent from the students of Ceol na Coille, sparks as well as fiddle bows will surely fly!
Tickets are priced at €15/12( Bealtaine) and can be booked through the theatre box office on 074 912 0777or on www.angrianan.com
