Little John Nee will showcase material from his new, soon to be released CD, Songs From the Lough Swilly Delta, in a special Donegal Bay and Blue Stacks Festival show at Aislann Chill Chartha, Kilcar tomorrow night Friday, October 3 at 8.30pm.
The Glasgow born, Donegal raised, theatre maker, actor, writer, musician and singer is one of Ireland’s best-loved performers.
Little John’s theatre shows – The Derry Boat, Rural Electric, The Mental, The Mother’s Arms and the award-winning Sparkplug, among mothers – have been performed all over Ireland, the UK and America. An integral feature of all of Little John’s productions has been their musical content, which has contributed immensely to the shows’ dramatic impact and to their enduringly popular appeal.
As such, Little John’s latest project has been to record a selection of songs from some of his most successful theatre shows under the title, ‘Songs From The Lough Swilly Delta’. Accompanying John on those recordings was the band from The Mother’s Arms, the wonderfully named, Caledonia Highly Strung Orchestra, featuring Donegal musicians Orla Gilcreest (vocals, clarinet), Jeremy Howard (keyboards) and Finn Robinson (vocals, guitars).
Tomorrow night in Kilcar, Little John Nee and the Caledonia Highly Strung Orchestra will give the first public performance of the ‘Songs From The Lough Swilly Delta’ set – a unique preview of a song collection that will surely open up a whole new career path for Little John Nee and his fellow musical collaborators.
Donegal Bay and Blue Stacks Festival is presented by Donegal County Council and supported by The Arts Council/An Comhairle Ealaíon.
