Finn Valley AC's Roisin Flanagan
Roisin Flanagan was back to winning ways on Saturday evening in Finland.
Ahead of the European Athletics Team Championships next weekend, Flanagan won over 3000m in Finland.
A season’s best 8:55.87 took the Finn Valley AC woman to first place at the Motonet GP Kuortane meet.
Victory sets Flanagan up nicely for next weekend’s European Teams Championships, which take place in Maribor, Slovenia.
Flanagan - who will go in the 5000m - will be joined there by Finn Valley AC club-mate Arlene Crossan, selected for the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay, and Tir Chonaill AC’s Fintan Dewhirst, who will compete in the 400m hurdles.
In the United States, at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Finn Valley AC athlete Sophia Thompson clocked a notable one mile time on Saturday night.
Thompson, whose father Terry hails from Letterkenny, finished eighth at the New Balance Nationals.

Thompson, a student at Union Catholic in New Jersey, crossed the line in 4:41.84, a time that would represent a new Irish U18 record over a mile.
Thompson’s 1500m split, 4:22.79, was also inside the European qualification mark of 4:25.
Her grandmother Margo Thompson and also the extended Ponsonby family keep up to date with her times from home in Letterkenny.
