Cara Laverty and Fintan Dewhirst confirmed for European U23 Championships

Tir Chonaill AC’s Fintan Dewhirst and Cara Laverty from Finn Valley AC have been confirmed for the European U23 Athletics Championships, which take place from July 17-20 in Bergen, Norway

Fintan Dewhirst and Cara Laverty have been selected as part of the Ireland squad for the European U23 Championships.

Tir Chonaill AC’s Dewhirst and Laverty from Finn Valley AC have been confirmed for the Championships, which take place from July 17-20 in Bergen, Norway.

Dewhirst has been chosen for the 400m hurdles and is in the mix to line up in the 4x400m relay too while Laverty is picked for the 1500m.

On Saturday, Laverty won silver in the Irish U23 1500m in Tullamore, clocking 4:25.29. Eimear Maher, who won gold in 4:22.80 is also named on the Irish team, 

In 2022, Dewhirst was the European U18 400m hurdles silver medallist. At the Givat Ram Stadium in Jerusalem, he clocked 51.65 seconds.

He competed recently in the European Athletics Team Championships Second Division, but picked up an injury early in his 400m hurdles race.
