Finn O’Neill set a new Irish U23 indoor record in the United States at the weekend.
The Lifford-Strabane AC athlete, now a student at the University of Texas at San Antonio, set a new Irish U23 record in the heptathlon.
O’Neill was competing at the Silver State Invitational in Reno, Nevada where he accumulated 5261 points in the heptathlon.
O’Neill clocked a 7.29-second 60m before going out to 6.72m in the long jump. O’Neill threw the shot put out to 13.63m and cleared 1.88m in the high jump. A 4.15m pole vault was followed by a 2:45 1000m run.
O’Neill took out the previous record by 161 points and he is now fourth on the Irish senior indoor all-time list.
Also in the United States at the weekend, there was a new Donegal record and a Finn Valley AC club record for Oisín Ó Gailín.

Over 5000m at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danvile Season Opener, the Ballybofey man clocked 13:40.25.
The time takes him to 16th on the all-time Irish list for an indoor 5k.
