At the National Master Indoor Championship in Athlone on Sunday, the Irish quartet set a new O65 mixed 4x200m record while there was also medal joy for several Donegal athletes

Tir Chonaill AC’s Shane Toolan helped the Irish O65 mixed relay team to set a new age group world record.

At the National Master Indoor Championship in Athlone on Sunday, the Irish quartet set a new O65 4x200m record. 

Toolan was joined by Edel Maguire, Shane Sheridan and Deirdre McFerran, who stopped the clock in 2:00.85 at TUS in Athlone.

Subject to ratification, the time edged the quartet past the previous best, the 2:00.93 set by Sweden’s Ottosson, Tolfes, Cocke and Pilgard in Gothenburg back in January.

Toolan also took an individual silver medal in the M65 60m when running 8.86 seconds.

Finn Valley AC’s Catriona Devine retained her W50 1500m gold.

Devine took victory in 5:01.62, winning from Mary Leech of Drogheda and District AC, whose 5:03.43 landed silver.

Milford AC’s Brian Boyce won the M45 400m. Boyce clocked 54.27 seconds to win from Monaghan’s Ross Miotti, who was just 0.01 of a second behind.

Boyce finished in 24.82 seconds for silver in the M45 200m.

It was a Lifford-Strabane AC 1-2 in the M55 shot. Damian Crawford took the gold when throwing to 11.10m with his club-mate Mark Doherty earning silver with a 9.97m effort.

Robert Anderson of Tir Chonaill AC won the M55 weight throw, reaching out to 7.42m and was fifth in M55 shot while Crawford and Doherty were third and fourth in the M55 weight throw, going to 6.85m and 6.60m respectively.

Bosco Reid of Finn Valley AC win silver in the M65 shot, reaching to a best of 10.24m, just 0.04m away from gold medal winner John Sheehan (Dooneen AC).

Tir Chonaill AC’s Tom McKelvey won the M50 long jump with a 5.19m leap and a 10.04m jump added gold in the triple jump.

John J Cannon of Tir Chonaill AC was the M65 1500m and 800m bronze medallist. In the 1500m, Cannon clocked 6:11.91 while he had a 3:04.06 run over 800m.

Frankie Murray of Finn Valley AC bagged a bronze in the M65 200m, finishing in 32.60 seconds.  Murray also took bronze in the 60m thanks to a 9.63-second run.

Robert Anderson from Tir Chonaill AC jumped to 7.02m for bronze in the M55 triple jump.
