Cahir Gormley celebrates his win in the United States

Illies Golden Gloves boxer Cahir Gormley was victorious in the United States over the weekend.

Light-middleweight Gormley defeated Demetress Wilson at the Gloves and Glory Flag Day Showdown, held in Scranton, Pennsylvania on Saturday night.

Gormley dazzled in front of 500 spectators at the Holiday Inn.

Gormley competed recently at the National Elite Competition in Belfast, losing out in a semi-final to Eugene McKeever having stopped Darragh Gilroy in his opening bout.

The Illies puncher was guesting at a show for the second time having overcome Anthony Muta in November, 2024.

At the weekend, Gormley bagged a points win over Wilson, who hails from New York and recently competed in the National Golden Gloves tournament.

“I’m an elite-level boxer so I want to be fighting elite-level competition,” Gormley said afterwards.

“All I do is eat, sleep and train and that's why I am where I am. And this is only the start of it. I want to push on. I have the right people behind me and I'm grateful to be in this position. People say it's a one-man sport but if I wasn't surrounded by great people I wouldn't be where I am.”
