Peter O'Donnell
Donegal boxing stalwart Peter O’Donnell will lead an Irish team at the Monkstown International Box Cup later this month.
The Raphoe Boxing Club supremo is joint manager for the tournament, which takes place from July 24-26 at the National Stadium in Dublin.
The eight boxers are National Senior Cadet champions, but there are no weights for them at the World of Havoc Tournament in Orlando, Florida, where the IABA is sending a team from July 27-August 4.
The Irish team includes: Liam Weatherall (St Joseph’s, Derry, 36kgs); Ryan Seery (Glasnevin, Dublin, 39kgs); Rylee Finn (St Nicholas, Tipperary, 42kgs); Joshua Cairns (Oakleaf, Derry, 44kgs); Lucy Dunne (Glin BC, Dublin, 36kgs); Danielle Smithers (Swords BC, Dublin, 39kgs); Heidi Carolan (Olympic, Mullingar, 42kgs); Louise Joyce (Olympic, Mullingar).
Bridget Scott from County Antrim is the team manager for the female boxers with O’Donnell overseeing the males.

Last year, he was the manager of the Ireland team for the 2024 EUBC Junior Boys and Girls European Boxing Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the Irish won seven medals - two gold and five bronze.
He managed Ireland at the 2021 AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Belgrade and was previously team manager at the 2015 European Elite Championships in Bulgaria, where Joe Ward and Michael Conlan won gold and Dean Walsh took a bronze medal.
