Dunfanaghy Boxing Club’s Sean Doohan has been named as co-captain of an Irish boxing squad for an international this weekend that will also feature Twin Towns Boxing Club’s Caoimhin Connolly.

Doohan and Leah Cairns from the Golden Gloves BC in Cork have bene confirmed as co-captains of the panel that will fight in Edinburgh on Saturday.

In a junior 80kgs bout, Doohan will take on Rory Mackenzie.

Doohan, who missed out on a place at the European U17s, will now don the Irish vest this weekend.

Connolly will be the youth 50kgs representative and is slated to face Aaron Sarwar.

Connolly was the Irish Youth 48kgs champion in 2025 and he made his debut in an international vest in 2025 having won a gold at the William Wallace Box Cup in Scotland in 2024.

Last year, he lost out to Kurt Kinsella in an Irish U19 final - before beating Kinsella in the Youth final - while he also fought an amateur exhibition on the Rumble In The Hills, Rising Stars professional card at the Aura Leisure Centre.

The Irish team, which includes 15 boxers, is led and managed by Aine McLoughlin of Spartans BC Cork, and coached by Linda Morgan (Arklow BC Wicklow), Ralph McKay (St. Paul’s BC Antrim) and Garry Kehoe (Marble City BC, Kilkenny).
