There is much shock and sadness at news that Bundoran café the Salty Fox is to close in the coming weeks.
The owners were met with a flood of tributes and good wishes for the future as they took to social media to share the sad news and to announce that the final day of trading will be Sunday, April 12.
A spokesperson said: “We are immensely proud of how successful the cafe has been over the last eight years and we have loved every minute of working here and serving you all.
“A business like this will take all that you can give it and it’s fair to say we gave it our all and more. This has not been an easy decision to make but it feels like the right decision for our young families.

“We want to thank you all so much for your loyalty and custom over the years. It’s because of this that we kept going for as long as we have. It’s been really hard chatting to some of you over the last few days but lovely to share a few memories all the same.
“Thank you for choosing us for all your gatherings, celebrations and get-togethers; there’s been a fair few out of tune renditions of happy birthday sang!
“And of course our biggest thanks go to all the wonderful people who have worked here over the years and our amazing and understanding current team. We couldn’t have done any of it without them. And a special mention also for our 'unpaid workers' Bernie and Gerry!
“We hope to catch up with many of you in the next few weeks.”
Here is a flavour of the reaction on social media:
“Sad to see you guys going, you done what ye do exceptionally well - set a high standard of expectation locally, always always reliable and super satisfying. But family comes first, and it's another feather in yer cap that ye have decided this has to be done for that reason. So go and enjoy your families and thanks so much for the time and the joy to the taste buds that ye have given to us at the Salty Fox. Maybe one day in a less busy future ye will be back doing this, bringing more taste bud heaven and food satisfaction to our area!” - Mary Rooney
“Sad day for bundoran losing such an amazing cafe.” - Enda O’Mahoney
“So sorry to hear this, I can’t imagine how hard this decision was to make. The Salty Fox and all the staff will be so very missed. The very best of wishes to all of you. Thank you all.” - Bernie McIntyre
“That's a pity. Whenever we spent our holidays in lovely Bundoran we had lunch once or twice a week with fantastic and tasty food served by super friendly staff, and we loved your interior! You will be missed, but for every single person of you - all the best and a big Thank you! Regards from Germany!” - Cyndi Knupfer
“Thanks to you and your staff for lovely lunches and treats. You were brilliant in covid dropping lunches to my parents for me. You will be sorely missed.” - Margaret Gavigan
