Donegal County Council staff shortages have affected the project's progress
Cathaoirleach Cllr Patrick McGowan shared his concern about the lack of progress on road safety improvements below the church in Drumkeen.
The Council’s Area engineer warned that the lack of engineers has affected the delivery of the project, which received over €100,000 from the Climate Action.
Cllr McGowan fears the allocated money could be lost, calling for a meeting with the engineers and the community.
“This is terrible… we need the meeting.” Cllr McGowan said, “We are lagging behind, and the members are completely frustrated.
“This is very important that the community in Drumkeen and the elected members see what’s been funded here… It can not be a question if the money’s gone; there will be a complete uproar.
“The public have complained about the shape of the roads, the danger, the health and safety, and it turns out we can’t spend the money we’re getting, and we’re getting little enough. No excuse will be acceptable… this needs to be dealt with with absolute urgency.”
The deadline for the use of the money is November of this year, leaving just under two months for the project to progress.
