Two drivers in Longford arrested for drug driving

Another drug driver was arrested in Donegal on Friday.

The detection was made in Carndonagh after the motorist was initially stopped for not wearing a seatbelt.

Gardai from the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit stopped the vehicle. The driver subsequently failed the roadside oral fluid preliminary drug test, testing positive for cocaine and was arrested.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Driving while under the influence of drugs/alcohol is dangerous and irresponsible.

“Never take risks while on the road. One poor decision when it comes to road safety could be the last decision you ever get to make.”

In the previous week, 14 arrests were made across the Donegal Garda Division for drink and drug driving offences. Eight of the arrests were made for drink driving with a further six for driving under the influence of drugs.

A spokesperson said :“We are coming into the Christmas party season and we urge everybody to think twice before making any poor decisions when it comes to road safety.

“If you are going out socialising please leave your car at home. Get a taxi or organise a lift. Never get a lift with someone if you think they may have alcohol or drugs in their system.”
