The brother and sister appeared before Letterkenny District Court
A brother and sister have appeared in court charged in connection with the discovery of a large drug haul.
Oscar and Emma (Bella) Ponsonby appeared before Judge Ciaran Liddy at Letterkenny District Court after being arrested by Gardai in Ramelton on Sunday. It followed the discovery of a large haul of drugs including cannabis, cocaine, MDMA and ketamine which Gardai initially valued at more than €26,000.
The arrests and discovery of the drugs came after members of the Donegal Divisional Drugs Unit searched a person in Letterkenny on Sunday and found a quantity of cannabis. Officers from the drugs squad then carried out a follow-up search in the Ramelton area.
Both Oscar, 21 and Emma Ponsonby, 19, are charged that on March 24, 2024, at Tiroddy, Ramelton, had in their possession a controlled drug, namely cannabis, for the purpose of sale or supply to others. The charges are Contrary to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977.
The pair, with an address at Tiroddy, Ramelton, were represented by solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher. Detective Garda Sergeant Frank McDaid said Gardai were agreeable to bail for both but on conditions. Both have to sign on at Letterkenny Garda Station once a week, surrender their passports and reside at the addresses provided.
Judge Ciaran Liddy agreed and adjourned the cases until June 17 for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
