Man to stand trial over false imprisonment at Letterkenny takeaway

The 36-year-old man also faces two counts of assault causing harm and will go before Letterkenny Circuit Court

A man charged with the false imprisonment of another man at a Letterkenny takeaway faces a trial in the Circuit Court.

Bhupinder Singh also faces two counts of assault causing harm.

Singh, 36-year-old with an address at Whitethorn Close, Letterkenny, is charged with three alleged offences on May 20, 2022 at Taste of India, Lower Main Street, Letterkenny.

Singh is charged that he falsely imprisoned Thomas Sweeney. The charge is contrary to section 15 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

He is also charged with assault causing harm to two men, Thomas Sweeney and Ciaran Hunter. The charges are contrary to section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that the matter be dealt with on indictment at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham adjourned the case on September 17 to allow for the service of a book of evidence.
