Judge imposes driving ban for parking in disabled bay

A man convicted of parking in a disabled bay has been disqualified from holding a driving licence, fined and ordered to pay prosecution costs.

Gerard McIntyre of Malinbeg, Glencolmcille, was due before Donegal District Court on Wednesday but was not present for the hearing.

A traffic warden for Donegal County Council gave evidence that the vehicle registered to the defendant was parked in a disabled bay in Donegal Town Cary Park Number 4 on December 19, 2023.

The court heard that McIntyre had two previous convictions for the same offence, for which fines had been imposed.

Judge Ciaran Liddy imposed a six month disqualification from driving and a fine of €300.

At the request of solicitor for Donegal County Council, Kevin McElhinney, the judge granted an order of prosecution costs of €138 to be paid by the defendant.

Judge Liddy set recognisance at €250 cash and a further €250 bond in the event of an appeal being lodged.
