A Donegal man with 47 previous convictions has been fined for speeding.

Stephen Orr was clocked driving at 123km/h in a 100km/h zone on December 27, 2023.

Orr, a 44-year-old with an address at Abbey Park, Manorcunningham, was stopped by Garda Thomas Duggan at Bohillion, Burt, at 2.25am.

Garda Duggan told Buncrana District Court that he showed Orr the speedgun after detecting the black Audi A4 he was driving travelling at 123km/h.

A fixed charge penalty notice that was issued remains unpaid, the court heard.

Sergeant Sean McDaid told the court that Orr has 47 previous convictions, including for public order offences, misuse of drugs, driving without insurance, dangerous driving and driving without a licence.

Orr previously received driving bans of six years and four years, but it was confirmed that he was not disqualified when this offence took place.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham convicted Orr and fined him €400, allowing five months to pay.
