Garda probe after dump truck set alight at Convoy building site

A criminal damage probe has been launched into the incident at a site in the Milltown area of Convoy shortly after 4.30am on July 18.

A dump truck was set alight at a Convoy building site in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Gardai believe that the fire was started deliberately.

A criminal damage probe has been launched into the incident at a site in the Milltown area of Convoy shortly after 4.30am on July 18.

Gardaí were alerted to the fact that there was a dump truck was on fire at that location by the Fire Services.

A Garda spokesperson said: “We appeal to anybody who may have travelled in that area with a dash cam early that morning to make the footage available to Gardaí.

“Any relevant information may be passed on to Gardaí in Letterkenny on 074-9167100 or to the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.”

There had been rumours cirulating that the site in question was due to be used to house asylum seekers.

However, the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth say this is not the case.

A spokesperson said: "The Department has received no offer of accommodation for people seeking international protection in respect of this property, and is not examining this property for use."
