The man appeared before Letterkenny District Court
A Donegal man in his late 80s has appeared in court charged with five sexual assault charges.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victims, appeared at Letterkenny District Court. He is charged with five offences all of which allegedly occurred in Donegal between 2020 and 2023.
The man's solicitor, Mr Frank Dorrian, said his client wished to proceed to Letterkenny Circuit Court on a signed plea. Mr Dorrian said his client understood the situation and was in court accompanied by a family member. A book of evidence has been served on the accused.
He is charged with an offence under Section 4 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act, 2017 on an unknown date between January 1 and January 5, 2023.
He is also charged with four further charges of sexual assault on various dates between 2020 and 2023. Judge Brendan O'Reilly read the alibi warning to the accused man and assigned both a senior and junior legal counsel to him for his appearance at Letterkenny Circuit Court. The case was adjourned to the next sitting of that court which begins on October 28th next.
