The accused man appeared at Falcarragh District Court
A Donegal man has appeared in court charged with raping a woman 35 times.
The man, who is in his 50s, cannot be named to protect the identity of his victim. He appeared to face the charges at Falcarragh District Court. He is charged with the alleged incidents over a three-year period between 1983 and 1986.
Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that he served a book of evidence on the accused. Sergeant Collins said the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented for the accused to go forward for trial at the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Dublin on September 29.
The man's bail was extended from the district court with one amendment. This means that the accused does not have to sign on weekly at a garda station.
Judge Brendan O'Reilly granted both a senior and a junior counsel to the accused for his upcoming trial. Legal aid was granted to the man's solicitor.
