A Culdaff woman, whose road tax was out of date by more than six months when she was stopped by the guards earlier this year, has been fined €250 in court.
Nora Gillen, of Templemoyle, Culdaff, did not appear before Buncrana District Court to defend the charge against her, but Judge Ciaran Liddy directed proceedings to go ahead as scheduled after being shown proof that she was notified.
Garda Brandon Wilkie, of Buncrana Garda Station, was sworn in to give evidence in the case.
He told the court how he had been on duty on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Cockhill, Buncrana, when the offence was detected.
At 10.50 that morning, Garda Wilkie observed a 2014-registered grey Honda Civic car, which was being driven by Nora Gillen.

On stopping the vehicle, Garda Wilkie observed that the road tax disc had expired for a period in excess of six months.
A fixed penalty notice was issued in respect of the offence, but it was not paid, and a court summons was issued as a result.
Judge Ciaran Liddy imposed a fine of €250, giving the Culdaff woman a deadline of six months to pay the sum.
He fixed recognisance at €100 cash, in case Ms Gillen intends to come to court and appeal the outcome.
