A Donegal man has pleaded guilty to a drug-dealing charge.

James Duncan tendered a guilty plea when he was formally arraigned before Judge John Aylmer at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

Duncan was charged with the possession of a controlled drug, namely cocaine, for the purpose of selling or otherwise supplying it to another. The charge is contrary to sections 15 and 27 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1972, as amended by section 6 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1984.

The 37-year-old, of Cnoc Ard Apartments, Letterkenny, spoke only to plead guilty.

A barrister for Duncan told the court that his client has “never been in trouble before” and asked that a probation report be prepared on behalf of his client.

He said Duncan is working with a psychiatrist and asked that legal aid be extended to cover a report.

Judge Aylmer sought the preparation of the reports and asked that they include an assessment as to Duncan’s suitability for community service.

The case was adjourned to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
