A 30-year-old man who had an alcohol reading of more than five times the legal alcohol has been handed a three-year disqualification from holding a driving licence.
Cillian Harte of Castle Leslie, Ballintogher, County Sligo, was before Ballyshannon District Court on Friday, November 7. He admitted driving while exceeding the legal alcohol limit at Drumacrin, Bundoran on June 5, 2025.
Inspector Dermot Treacy told the court that the defendant was found to have an alcohol level of 121mcg per 100m of breath. The legal limit is 22mcg.
Solicitor Ciaran White said that his client had suffered a number of difficulties and had turned to alcohol due to stress. He said his client was apologetic.
The solicitor asked the court to be as lenient as possible, and to take into account that Harte had no previous convictions.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham imposed a mandatory three-year driving ban, and a fine of €200.
