A Stranorlar woman had appeared in court charged with disorderly conduct in a public place.

Nicole Hill, aged 33, appeared at Letterkenny District Court.

Garda Sergeant Jim Collins gave the background to the incident.

He told how on August 18, 2024, a number of people became involved in an altercation at 3am at Oliver Plunkett Road in Letterkenny.

Ms Hill, with an address at Chapel Street in Stranorlar, became involved in the incident which involved two groups of people.

The accused, who was drunk, refused to desist when requested by Gardai and she was later arrested.

Sergeant Collins said Hill was apologetic after she sobered up.

Solicitor for the accused, Mr Donough Cleary, said his client was not directly involved in the incident but was a member of a group being spoken to by Gardai.

She strongly objected to members of the other group who she claimed were video recording her group while Gardai were speaking to them.

The court was told she has one previous conviction under Section 6 of the Public Order Act following an incident in 2018 for which she was fined €250.

"She is very embarrassed by what happened," added Mr Cleary.

Judge Emile Daly fined the accused €250 and allowed her six months to pay.
