The man was fined for failing to pay and display for parking in Buncrana.

A Buncrana motorist who failed to pay and display for parking in Buncrana earlier this year has been fined €140 and ordered to pay additional costs of €138 to Donegal County Council.

John Doherty, of 11 Red Row, Buncrana, was not present in court when his case was called at the most recent sitting of Buncrana District Court.

However, Judge Emile Daly directed the matter to proceed in his absence after being informed that Mr Doherty was notified of the scheduled proceedings.

A Buncrana traffic warden presented the facts in court. He said he was on patrol in the town on Saturday, January 4, 2025, when the offence was detected.

At 11.39am that morning the traffic warden was on duty at the Ferris Lane car park when he observed a 2014-registered vehicle without a valid pay and display parking ticket displayed, nor electronic payment made.

At 2.48pm the warden issued a fixed penalty notice, placed it on the windscreen wiper and took photographs of the vehicle in question, which was owned by Mr Doherty.

The fine was not paid however, and the matter proceeded to court as a consequence.

Acting for the Council, solicitor Donna Ferry told the judge that Mr Doherty had one previous conviction for a similar pay and display offence, for which he was fined €100 plus costs of €138 at court in July.

Judge Daly imposed a €140 fine for the latest offence and she ordered the Buncrana man to pay additional costs of €138 to the Council, allowing him four months to pay the €278 total.
