Man admits having knife and making threats to kill in Ballyshannon

A man has appeared in court charged with possessing a knife and making threats to kill two women in Ballyshannon.

Brian McDonagh appeared before Donegal Circuit Court in connection with an incident at Lawn Park, Ballyshannon on January 27, 2023.

The 24-year-old, of Lawn Park, Ballyshannon, was before Judge John Aylmer to affirm a guilty plea entered at Ballyshannon District Court.

When asked by the court clerk if he affirmed his plea, McDonagh replied: “Yeah”.

He is charged with the production of an article, namely a knife, capable of inflicting serious injury. The charge is contrary to section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990.

McDonagh is also charged with causing criminal damage to a pink Apple iPhone 8, contrary to section 2 of the Criminal Damage Act, 1991.

He also faces charges of making threats to kill or cause serious harm to two women. These charges are contrary to section 5 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

McDonagh was remanded in custody until next week when he will be sentenced. 

The accused man is represented by Mr Colm Smyth SC, instructed by solicitor Mr Gerry McGovern.
