The man appeared at Letterkenny District Court
A Donegal man is facing a Circuit Court trial on historic indecent assault charges.
The man, who is in his 60s and cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Letterkenny District Court, where he was served with a book of evidence.
The accused did not speak during the brief appearance before Judge Emile Daly.
He is charged with two offences, dating back to the 1970s. He is accused that he did, at a named location in County Donegal, indecently assault a male person.
The charges are contrary to Common Law and section 62 of the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861.
Garda Gillian Page gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on the accused man. The man made no reply, the court heard.
Sergeant Jim Collins said that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented for the accused man to be sent forward to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court in February, 2026.
Noting the directions of the DPP, Judge Daly administered the alibi warning and made a section 56 order relating to tapes of interviews.
Bail was granted on the same terms.
Mr Jason Laverty, solicitor for the man, applied for two legal counsel to be assigned in the case.
“They are serious historical charges,” Mr Laverty said.
