The man appeared at Donegal Circuit Court
A man has appeared in court charged with seriously assaulting a woman in Ballyshannon.
Edward Harkin tendered a guilty plea when he appeared before Judge John Aylmer at Donegal Circuit Court.
The 33-year-old, with an address at River House, Gweedore Road, Dungloe, was before the court charged with an offence on May 10, 2025 at East Port, Ballyshannon.
Harkin, who is currently in custody at Castlerea Prison and was brought to court by prison officers, was arraigned on a charge of assaulting a woman and causing her harm, a charge contrary to section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.,
When the charge was put to Harkin, he replied: “Yeah, guilty”.
Mr Colm Smyth SC, barrister for Harkin, said that his client has previous convictions. Mr Smyth informed the court that Harkin’s father had passed away recently and this had an impact on him.
Judge Aylmer adjourned the case for sentencing until the next session of the court and Harkin was remanded in custody.
