The incident occurred at Letterkenny Shopping Centre
A man has been convicted following the theft of a purse in Letterkenny.
Gintaras Jankauskas appeared before Letterkenny District Court over the theft on September 6, 2025.
Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that a male was observed on CCTV taking the purse from beside a massage chair at a location in Letterkenny Shopping Centre.
The female who owned the purse noticed it missing and made a report.
The purse, which was worth €20, contained €180 in cash. Gardai searched the area and located Jankauskas, a 56-year-old of Churchlands, Manorcunningham.
The accused man, who was aided in court by an interpreter, was described as being “fully compliant”.
Solicitor Mr Donough Cleary said his client had wanted to return the property to the owner himself.
“He thought if he returned it that he would get a reward,” Mr Cleary said.
Judge Emile Daly convicted Jankauskas and made a €250 compensation order. A default fine order, of €400, was also made should he not come up with the compensation.
