Creeslough man put off the road for having no insurance

The man was given a driving ban when he appeared before Letterkenny District Court

A Creeslough man has been disqualified from driving for four years after being convicted for driving without insurance.

Josie Kelly was also fined €450 at Letterkenny District Court.

Garda Darragh Heaney told the court that he stopped a vehicle being driven by Kelly on May 4, 2023 at Drumdutton, Carrigart.

A lawful demand was made for Kelly to produce his insurance or a certificate of exemption. Kelly opted to produce at Letterkenny Garda Station, but did not to so.

The 46-year-old of Castledoe, Creeslough, has 22 previous convictions, the court heard.

Mr Donough Cleary, solicitor for Kelly, said that the vehicle belonged to Kelly’s brother.

He said Kelly works mainly in the UK and contested that his client does not have a significant history of road traffic offences. He said Kelly’s means “vary, depending on his work situation”.

Judge Emile Daly convicted Kelly and fined him €450, allowing six months to pay. Kelly was also disqualified from driving for a period of four years.
