Letterkenny gardai stopped the vehicle and found the substance

A man was found in possession of €270 worth of amphetamine when stopped by Gardai in Letterkenny.

Frantisek Hulej was handed a €400 fine when he appeared before Letterkenny District Court.

On May 31, 2023 at 6.10pm, at Dunnes Stores Carpark, Oldtown Road, Letterkenny, Hulej was stopped by Gardai.

Following a search of the vehicle, a small tin foil wrap containing white powder was located.

Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) analysed the substance and confirmed that it was 17.9 grams of amphetamine, with a street value of €270.

Solicitor Mr Frank Dorrian said his client was originally from Poland and has been in Ireland for six or seven years now.

Mr Dorrian said it was acknowledged that the amphetamine was for personal use and this was “a bad idea from beginning to end”.

Hulej had worked seasonally as a fisherman, but is currently unemployed, the court heard.

Mr Dorrian said Hulej, a father-of-two, had a “modest amount” oaf the drug and said there was no pattern of this offending.

Judge Emile Daly remarked: “There are more modest cases than €270”.

Bearing in mind the type of drug and the amount involved, Judge Daly convicted Hulej and fined him €400, allowing six months to pay,
