Gardaí warn that bogus callers can be intimidating and may refuse to accept a refusal
Gardaí are advising the public to be vigilant following reports of a possible bogus caller operating in the Newmills area of Letterkenny this morning.
It is understood that a man and a woman were travelling in a blue Volkswagen van and calling to homes offering power-washing services. Gardaí say such callers often claim to provide services including power-washing, painting or tarmacking, or may attempt to sell items such as tools or generators. These individuals typically target vulnerable people, particularly those living alone.

Members of the public are being urged not to engage with unsolicited callers and not to open their door unless they are confident the person is known to them or has a legitimate reason for calling. The use of door chain locks is also recommended as an added security measure.
Gardaí warn that bogus callers can be intimidating and may refuse to accept a refusal. Anyone who encounters a suspected bogus caller is asked to contact Gardaí immediately and, where possible, provide details such as descriptions of those involved, vehicle registration numbers and the direction of travel.
The public is also reminded to remain alert while out and about and to report any suspicious people or vehicles. Gardaí note that bogus callers can operate in any part of Donegal and may use a variety of vehicles.
