The case was heard before Letterkenny District Court

A young child involved in a road traffic collision has been awarded €1,800.

The boy had just turned one-year-old when the collision occurred in 2022.

An infant ruling came before Judge Emile Daly at Letterkenny District Court.

Barrister Mr Simon Gillespie BL told the court that the boy attended a GP four months after the collision. The issues suffered by the boy had resolved six-eight weeks post-collision, the court heard.

The boy was said to have been “generally unsettled”, experienced poor sleep and did not want to go into a car seat, his mother reported to the doctor.

The injuries board assessed this as a single, minor psychiatric injury.

Mr Gillespie said it was his opinion that the injuries were minor in nature and that an offer of general damages in the sum of €1,000 was appropriate.

The €1,000 of general damages and €837 in special damages were awarded while Judge Daly also approved costs in respect of the matter.
