Donegal Gardaí are urging motorists to exercise caution on the roads as the annual St Patrick’s Day celebrations approach, with increased enforcement planned over the coming days.
With the national holiday on the horizon, Gardaí have confirmed that checkpoints and speed checks will be carried out across Donegal over the weekend and on St Patrick’s Day itself, as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce the risk of collisions.
Drivers are being strongly reminded never to get behind the wheel if they are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Gardaí are encouraging people who plan to socialise over the holiday period to arrange a safe way home in advance, whether by organising a lift with a designated driver or booking a taxi.

Donegal road users are also urged never to travel as a passenger in a vehicle if they suspect the driver may be under the influence.
