A juvenile has been granted bail after being caught red-handed stealing a bicycle from a Letterkenny hotel at the weekend.

The teenage boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Monday’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court.

A BMX bicycle was stolen from McGettigan’s Hotel on Sunday, May 29.

Garda Ciaran McGinley gave evidence of arresting the youth at 8pm on Sunday. The boy was charged at 11.32 and he made no reply, Garda McGinley said.

The accused was accompanied to court by his mother.

Garda McGinley told Mr Justice Paul Kelly that CCTV clearly showed the youth entering the hotel and leaving with the bicycle, which was valued at €150. The bike was found at the suspect’s home.

“He was caught red-handed,” Garda McGinley said.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the Court that Gardaí were seeking to revoke bail, which was granted on other charges. The boy is on bail on five separate charges.

Justice Kelly granted bail and adjourned the case until June 20 when all matters will be heard.
