Sergeant Paul Wallace urges people to extra vigilant

The Crime Prevention Officer for Donegal has said fraudsters are becoming smarter and becoming more inventive in the methods they use to garner information in order to obtain money.

Sergeant Paul Wallace outlined the case of a woman from the Manorcunningham area who was getting broadband installed. She received a call from what she believed to be customer support, he said. She dealt with the call accordingly and later received a text with a link, she clicked on the link which resulted in fraudsters taking control of her mobile device and stealing a total of €726.50 from her account.

Sergeant Wallace said the lady had reported the crime on Tuesday morning.

He added that this activity shows the speed at which fraudsters can steal your information online and how quickly they can act upon it.
