A Donegal woman has raised over €6,000 for suicide bereavement organisation HUGG from running the Donegal Half Marathon.
HUGG - Support After Suicide - wishes to acknowledge the incredible commitment of Copany-based volunteer Donna Maskery.
With the support of her community, Donna raised an outstanding €6,110 to support people who have lost a loved one to suicide.
Donna took on the challenge in memory of her brother Aaron, participating not only as a tribute to him but also to raise awareness and vital funds so that others bereaved by suicide can find support and connection.
Speaking about her motivation, Donna said: “Running the half marathon in memory of my brother Aaron was both emotional and uplifting. I wanted to honour his memory while helping others who are facing the same devastating grief. I’m so grateful to everyone who donated and supported me - together, we are making sure that no one has to go through this journey alone.”
Fiona Tuomey, CEO of HUGG, added: “Donna’s strength and dedication are truly inspiring. The funds she has raised will help HUGG continue providing vital services and peer support led by people who have also been bereaved by suicide. This unique support can be life-changing, offering connection, hope, and understanding at a time when it is needed most.”
HUGG is a unique suicide bereavement organisation in Ireland providing support from those who have also lost someone to suicide. Services include peer support groups, a national telephone support line, grief resources, advocacy, and research - ensuring that nobody has to navigate this journey alone.
