At 601 meters, the cliffs boast stunning views of Donegal Bay and the Atlantic Ocean
Upgrades to the carpark and viewing platform at the Sliabh Liag Cliffs have been approved.
The update came at the recent plenary meeting of Donegal County Council, proposed by Sinn Féin Councillor Noel Jordan and seconded by Independent Councillor Niamh Kennedy.
The approval is under Part 8 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 to upgrade the viewpoint and reconfigure the upper car park at Europe’s highest accessible sea cliffs. At 601 meters, the cliffs boast stunning views of Donegal Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
The development includes the dismantling of the existing timber viewing platform and the installation of a new suspended viewing platform. The new platform will be supported on piled foundations and a handrail will also be installed. The existing path from the car park to the new platform will also be widened.

The existing parking facilities will be reconfigured to include the creation of designated bus, car, motorbike and bicycle parking and turning facilities. Additionally, there will be a designated area for up to four casual trading pitches, a small shelter for visitors, the installation of signage and picnic benches.
