Letterkenny Mayor opens new Link Road

CEO of Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce, Toni Forrester.

The Mayor of Municipal District, Councillor James Pat McDaid has officially opened the new Link Road in Letterkenny.

The new road, on the outskirts of Letterkenny, connects Lisnenan Road with the Kiltoy Road, through the former Unifi site.

The Unifi Link Road was conceived and designed to open up the land at the former Unifi plant following its demolition, and to provide an improved and safer route for motorists to access the N56 via the soon to be constructed roundabout.

The 345m road which links the mini roundabout on the Kiltoy Road and the mini-roundabout on the Lisnenan Road was partially constructed by the former owners of the Unifi site, and recently completed at a cost of €42,000 and taken in charge by the Letterkenny Municipal District.

Its opening will in the short term provide an alternative route for Lisnenan traffic to avoid the roadworks on the N56 Kiltoy Roundabout which are due to open in twenty weeks. Its long term benefit will be realised in conjunction with the opening of the N56 Roundabout at Ballyraine.

Business and infrastructural developments in Letterkenny has been welcomed by the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce, Chief Exexutive Officer, Toni Forrester.

While welcoming the recent developments, she said that she envisages that the recent developments may attract new investors.

She added that she would like to see more work being done on roads that would link Letterkenny to Dublin.

"We need to have roads in and out of the town, linking us to Dublin," she said.
