A special art auction will take place in Carrigart this Friday night

Local artist group, Mevagh Macra, extends an open invitation to their Art Auction on Friday December 10 at 7.30pm, in aid of their upcoming 2011 Feile Carraig Arts & Culture festival.

The art has been donated by various local artists, including work by Hugh Aodh Doherty, Micheal McGettigan, Martin Fleming and Frank Boyce.

Exhibitions will be on view from 6pm in the Carrigart Hotel with the auction starting at 7.30pm.

Speaking about the event, Mevagh Macra's PRO, Siobhan Coyle said: ‘This event will be a great opportunity for people to bid on an original piece of local art while supporting the arts in their local community'

Mevagh Macra is a voluntary youth group covering the environs of Carrigart, Glen, Downings and Cranford. They have co-ordinated numerous events over the past four years for various charities.

The idea for the culture festival came about after the very successful Mevagh Macra Oiche Airneal in Teach Mici Ban's, Carrigart in July 2010.

That night promoted traditional culture and brought together various community groups of all ages.

The art auction is being held to raise funds to support events at the festival next year. Further information is available on facebook by searching for Mevagh Macra or by ringing Michelle on (087) 9362536.
