to consider programmme

Local Fianna Fil Senator Brian 'Domhnaill is urging unemployed people throughout Donegal to consider applying to a new community work placement programme introduced by the Department of Social Protection earlier this week.

Under the new Ts initiative, 180 people in Donegal will be with jobs in the community and voluntary sector next year. Donegal Local Development Company, Inishowen Development Partnership and dars na Gaeltachta will have responsibility for delivering the work opportunities locally.

Participants will receive their current maximum social welfare payment as well as a top up of €20 per week. They will be required to work 19.5 hours a week for a maximum of 12 months. Nationally, Ts provides 5,000 places at community and voluntary groups in all counties.

Senator 'Domhnaill has described it as a win-win initiative for everyone involved: "Not only will this help get people in Donegal off the Live Register and back onto the job market, it will also benefit community groups who will have the support of extra staff."

He added: "The people who get these roles will gain vital experience and training to boost their CVs and help them with future job opportunities. The entire community will reap the rewards of local organisations having more hands on deck."

"I strongly encourage those seeking work to consider applying for this scheme. Applications are now open and all of the places will be provided throughout 2011. I would be delighted to help anyone who's interested through the application process," concluded Senator 'Domhnaill.
