Threatened to kill garda
A Bunbeg man who demanded garda drive him home, threatened to kill one of the garda members when he refused to do so.
James McBride (31) of Dobhair Thuag has previously alleged in court that he "is being victimised" by gardai, who, it emerged, have stopped and searched him five times in the past two years. He was in Dungloe District Court on Tuesday, charged with being intoxicated in a public place and failing to comply with the direction of a garda.
Garda Kieran Naughton told the court that shortly after midnight on September 21st last, he was on duty on Main Street, Dungloe. "Mr McBride approached me and demanded to be left home. He ran to my patrol car and got in the back. He was lifted out and directed to leave the area, but again demanded to be left home."
On arrest, he told Garda Naughton: "You will be got. I'll kill you for this."
Defence solicitor Cormac Hartnett said his client "accepted he had too much to drink" and had apologised the next day. The court heard that McBride has a number of convictions and that there are also other charges pending against him.
Judge Seamus Hughes advised McBride: "The next time you encounter guards don't make personal threats against them." He imposed a total of €600 in fines.
